----- Deville Diner -----

I must admit, when Deville Diner first started its construction, I expected nothing wow-worthy except for its clever marketing style, which first appeared as a mysterious pin hole inviting passerby to take a peek of its "construction", which was a promotional video. My skepticism told me it will be another gimmick restaurant, with retro, nostalgic themes, to pile on top of other neighboring friends as Reubens, Nickels; plus the thought of good, unusual food never comes to mind in central downtown. Then I finally got my chance to devour in its debauchery, and of course aside from the food, the graphic design made me float above my 60's diner seat. I could talk about the food all day and how lethal the comfort food is (Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives would approve); let's just say mac & cheese wontons and fried pickles.

The branding of Deville Diner is an amalgamation of pop art, punk, minimalism and throw in a hint of retro-diner inspired. Purple, magenta, black makes up their family of colours—quite pop indeed. Upon opening the menu, my inner self started giggling at the perfect layout and chosen font; the copywriting did not skip a beat either: the tongue-in-cheek humor and witty slogans are splashed generously around the pages and paper placement. A friend comments how some of the retro "ads" didn't make sense—that's the point, it isn't suppose to; 50's 60's advertising style are ironic at its best, so what is the best way to use it than in a modern time 60's diner.

The website does not slack either; more retro punches thrown at us; music, videos are very playful and fun. Miaou Studio are the suspects who killed it well. (worth taking a look at the rest of their Deville Diner branding/marketing campaign)
