I really like this poster for a Charlize Theron film, Young Adult. Quite nostalgic. I remember reading those teen books such as the Babysitter Clubs and remembering how I use to stare at covers because of the realistically drawn details. The movie poster even has it down to the old- school slogan that provides a peek of what is inside the pages, and a small price tag at the top right corner.

----- Simplicity Speaks A Million Words -----

These awesome creations are from Exergian. Hardly more than 3 elements/shapes are used, yet we immediately understand the gist. Design is at its best when we are confronted with limited space, material, software, deadlines, help, and tools because only then we are forced to revert back to basic thinking and utilize other ways to execute our ideas.

Saul Bass, graphic design, and Dexter, words I never thought I'd put together but were when I was greeted during lunch with these wonderful tv posters by the award winning graphic designer Ty Mattson. Showtime are selling these on their website. I absolutely love them. It has the Saul Bass style, dark, criminal theme, just like the show. Each poster is dedicated to each season. If you follow Dexter, you will relish in the details.

Now, who may you ask is Saul Bass? Don't worry, I won't kick you in the sensitive areas. He's just THE classic American graphic designer, filmmaker, creator, artist of the visual marvelousness. He's famous for many opening film sequences (Casino, Cape Fear, Goodfellas, etc) and inspired the one for Catch Me If You Can because of his Martin Scorcesse connection (Bass passed away before the film was produced). His other credits include: AT&T logo; Continental Airline 1968 "jetstream" logo; Ott's The Man with the Golden Arm.

After looking and reading around about "Keep Calm and Carry On", I fortuitously found this site called Keep Calm Gallery, which coincidentally is also selling the posters, features all sorts of typographic posters, both old and new. I'm very fond of it because typography makes me giggle with glee. And these are definitely making me want to design some posters.
