----- La Nuit est Belle -----

We often have predefined expectations of our own city. There are things we routinely complain about; things we regularly find boring; things we consistently despise about the city, but then, there are few times a year where these issues are temporarily put aside as we tend to the joys given to us by the local festivities. So when Nuit Blanche arrived on the 26th of February—its 8th year—for the Highlights Festival, the night air was filled with so much enthusiasm and excitement from the masses of people, the nighttime quickly became daytime, hence nuit blanche (white night). Maybe I care too much or give too much attention to detail, there's a sudden overwhelming warmth during an extremely cold night when you witness the entire city and its people coming together. From the adorable diner/drive-in theater-like signage for the shuttlebus to the subway musicians who set up their own installation; there were unexpected surprises in every corner. You would walk down an escalator, and at the bottom of it, there's a group of people, sitting, with headphones, occupied by an audio installation setup. The best is, this event lasts until the wee hours of morning (metro open all night). Not even the -20 degrees weather would drive away a single soul's ambition to creativity, talent, and knowledge.
