On a serendipitous occasion, I caught a documentary on the works of a Canadian photographer, Edward Burtynsky. His collection inspires and provokes you in an awestruck way, forces you to re-analyze the visual environment we inhabit. Burtynsky builds scenery through the evidence he gathers from his travels, displaying the detrimental impacts of dumping grounds and the industrial revolution, caused by the irresponsible actions of humanity. Being in Hong Kong, my repulsiveness towards mass manufacturing was only strengthened by witnessing their materialistic culture. The collection was so vivid and so compelling, a filmmaker took on a project, which since then has gained recognition and awards. Imagine viewing these in their original, large-scale sizes, it's breathtaking.
